Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe and other Attendees
LAGOS, Nigeria – More than 5,000 young entrepreneurs and innovators gathered in Lagos on Monday as community platform OmoeKOH disbursed over SME grants worth N200 million in cash, business support packages and work tools aimed at accelerating enterprise growth.
The initiative comes at a time when small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for nearly half of Nigeria’s GDP and employ millions yet continue to face barriers including limited access to capital and business support.
Held in Lagos on Monday, the inaugural Wealth and Impact Summit attracted traders, technology enthusiasts and aspiring founders.
Representing Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe praised the initiative.
“This summit is designed to provide a platform where ideas meet opportunity, mentorship and capital. It aligns with our administration’s determination to create an enabling environment where enterprises can thrive,” he said.
Out of more than 3,000 applicants, 25 entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas before judges.
David Ogunbanjo of Blanet Africa emerged the winner, receiving N5 million. Adeleke-Lawal of Ummis Nature secured N4 million, while Favour Adeleke of Qiqi Farms won N3 million.
Other finalists received N500,000 each.
Beyond cash support, OmoeKOH distributed laptops to designers and developers, mobile phones to content creators and facilitated free CAC and SMEDAN registrations for over 1,000 businesses.
Founder Alhaji Imran Oladimeji Hamzat said the initiative seeks to bridge opportunity gaps for young Nigerians.
“We are trying to empower the younger generation. We understand that the younger generation is finding it difficult to find people to hear them out,” he said.
