ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has temporarily suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise in Niger State due to ongoing renovation work at the state orientation camp.
The Niger orientation camp suspension was announced in a notice shared on the scheme’s official X account on Sunday, with the agency assuring prospective corps members that new arrangements would be communicated in due course.
“This is to inform prospective corps members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course that the exercise has been suspended temporarily due to renovation activities at the orientation camp,” the statement said.
The NYSC added that affected prospective corps members would receive updates regarding new reporting dates and venues.
The agency apologised for the inconvenience caused to corps members and their families.
The suspension follows infrastructure damage at the Paiko orientation camp in Paikoro Local Government Area earlier this year after a windstorm reportedly destroyed parts of the facility.
Affected structures included hostels, staff quarters, the kitchen and the multi-purpose hall.
Following the incident, Governor Mohammed Bago directed immediate repairs to restore the camp’s facilities.
The Niger orientation camp is among several NYSC facilities that have experienced disruptions linked to infrastructure challenges in recent months. Similar cases have been recorded in states such as Enugu and Osun.
The nationwide 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation programme began on June 10 and is expected to conclude on June 30.
The temporary suspension is likely to affect hundreds of prospective corps members deployed to Niger State, many of whom had already begun travel preparations before the announcement.
The NYSC said it remains committed to ensuring a safe and conducive environment for corps members during orientation activities across the country.
