ILORIN, Nigeria – The Kwara State Government has announced that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, is now fully operational.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, confirmed this in a statement signed by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Saad Hamdalat, on Tuesday.
El-Imam described the development as a major boost to the state’s healthcare system, stressing that the ICU would provide lifesaving support to critically ill patients and enhance the capacity of health workers.
“This is a significant step in expanding access to quality healthcare. The ICU will serve as a beacon of hope for families during emergencies,” she said.
She commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for sustained investment in the health sector, adding that the new ICU would also enhance medical training, research, and clinical practice at the teaching hospital.
The government urged residents to make use of the upgraded facilities, while health workers were charged to uphold high standards of professionalism.
In January, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu inaugurated an ultramodern ICU and Dr. Amuda Aluko VIP Ward at the same teaching hospital.
El-Imam stressed that the facility was inclusive and affordable, designed to serve all categories of patients without financial strain.
