ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government plans to generate 50 million jobs through reforms and privatisation of state-owned enterprises, the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has announced.
BPE Director General, Ayodeji Gbeleyi said on Tuesday that the agency is liberalising key sectors, from power and transport to agriculture and healthcare, to drive inclusive growth.
“We are targeting 15 strategic projects to generate N312.3 billion for the 2025 budget through asset sales and privatisation,” Gbeleyi revealed.
He noted that the Presidential Metering Initiative will deploy 7 million smart meters, creating over 20,000 jobs, while previous privatisations in telecoms and ports have transformed Nigeria’s economy.
Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Gbeleyi said the reforms will reduce inefficiencies and poverty while boosting revenue.
