ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has announced urgent repairs on the damaged deck of the Benin-bound section of the Shagamu-Benin carriageway.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, dispatched engineers to the Edo–Ondo border bridge on Tuesday, assuring motorists that a temporary fix would restore movement within 45 days.
The bridge, constructed in 1981, developed a visible puncture due to age-related deterioration. Umahi explained that a permanent solution would involve full deck reconstruction using innovative technology.
He apologised to road users for inconveniences during the rehabilitation and assured collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps to manage traffic flow.
The minister also confirmed that over 30 bridges nationwide will undergo rehabilitation in 2025 as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda to modernise road infrastructure.
