ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a final 10-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, warning of a nationwide strike if outstanding welfare demands are not met.
In a communiqué signed on Monday by NARD President, Dr Tope Osundara and other executives after an extraordinary NEC meeting, the doctors condemned government’s failure to pay the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, five months of salary arrears under the 25%/35% CONMESS review, and the 2024 Accoutrement Allowance.
They also criticised the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for downgrading postgraduate certificates and faulted the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) for delays in certificate issuance.
State governments were not spared. Kaduna and Oyo were accused of reneging on signed agreements, worsening ongoing strikes in their teaching hospitals.
NARD, however, commended governors who had paid the MRTF, describing them as “committed to doctors’ welfare.”
“The NEC extends the ultimatum by 10 days. Failure to comply leaves us no choice but a nationwide strike,” the statement read.
