Tragic Drowning Claims Lives of Ekiti University Students

A tragic incident occurred at the popular Ikun dam in the Mobal local government area of Ekiti, where two undergraduate students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti lost their lives while swimming.

The deceased, identified as Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, were students of the theatre arts department.  According to a source, the students had joined their colleagues for research work and rehearsal at Igogo-Ekiti on Sunday but later decided to visit Ikun-Ekiti for sightseeing.

“After the close of rehearsal, the two students decided to go to Ikun-Ekiti possibly to have some fun at the dam before they both drowned,” the source revealed.

The incident confirmed on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ekiti state command, SP Abutu, has cast a pall of gloom over the university community, with efforts ongoing to recover the bodies of the students.

“Efforts are still ongoing by the Police, Fishermen and other concerned citizens to recover the bodies of the two Ekiti State University Students that were suspected drowned by Ero Dam in Ikun-Ekiti.”
