Court Remands Teacher for Assaulting 3-Year-Old Pupil

A Lagos State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba has arraigned Stella Nwadigbo, a teacher at Christ Mitot School, for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old pupil.

The police accused Nwadigbo of committing the offence on January 7th within the school premises, where she was filmed slapping and punching the young boy while teaching him to write numerals.

The viral video sparked widespread outrage, leading to Nwadigbo’s suspension by the school’s management and the hospitalization of the pupil, Abayomi.

The police prosecutor, Raji Akeem, stated on Thursday that the offence violated Sections 135 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Despite the allegations, Nwadigbo pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate O. Kushanu admitted Nwadigbo to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties of like amount.

The case has been adjourned to February 18 for mention, and Nwadigbo has been remanded in the custody of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until she perfects her bail terms.
