A 40-year-old fisherman has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for the sexual exploitation of a 10-year-old girl.

The conviction was handed down by Justice S.M. Shu’aibu of the Federal High Court in Kano on Wednesday.

The prosecution, led by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Kano State Zonal Commander, Abdullahi Babale, presented four pieces of evidence, including the defendant’s confession.

The court found the defendant guilty of violating the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

Justice Shu’aibu determined that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced the defendant without the option of a fine.
