Atsi Kefas, the 44-year-old sister of Taraba State Governor Kefas Gagbus, has tragically died from gunshot wounds sustained during an attack in Kente village, Wukari local government council.

She passed away at a private hospital in Abuja, where she was receiving treatment after being transferred from the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari.

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the circumstances of the attack, with some sources attributing it to a bandit attack, while others suggest it may have been caused by an accidental discharge from a security operative traveling with her.

However, the state police command has attributed the incident to an armed robbery. The lack of clarity surrounding the attack has sparked widespread condemnation and concerns over the persistent insecurity in Taraba.

This tragic incident has added to the growing anxiety over safety in the state, where such attacks have become increasingly frequent.

Taraba has been plagued by violence, with Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists launching attacks on Christian communities.

The state’s insecurity has claimed numerous lives, including those of Pastor Clement Anthony and student Titi Edward, who were killed in Jalingo, the state capital.

The Nigerian government’s inability to stem the tide of violence has raised concerns about its commitment to protecting its citizens.

As the country grapples with the aftermath of Atsi Kefas’ death, many are calling for increased action to address the insecurity plaguing Taraba and other states.
