No fewer than 20 passengers on a boat have reportedly died when it capsized in River Benue, Benue State.
The tragedy struck on Monday, when the wooden boat, carrying passengers returning from a market, sank in a section of the River that flows through the Igatu region, Benue Police spokesperson Catherine Anene confirms.
Rescue operations are continuing in the area.
Anene said that search and rescue efforts recovered 20 bodies, while 11 people were rescued and taken to the hospital.
