President Tinubu Departs Abuja for 10-Day Working Vacation Europe

LAGOS, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for a 10-day working vacation in Europe, the Presidency confirmed on Thursday.

In a statement, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today, 4 September, to commence a working vacation in Europe, as part of his 2025 annual leave.”

The trip is expected to combine rest with official engagements. “The vacation will last 10 working days,” Onanuga added.

According to the statement, the President will divide his break between France and the United Kingdom, before returning to Nigeria. The trip follows Tinubu’s tradition of alternating vacation destinations between Europe and other international hubs.

Supporters argue the break provides the President with much-needed rest while maintaining access to global partners. Critics, however, question extended foreign stays given Nigeria’s pressing economic and security challenges.

The Presidency stressed that official duties would continue during the period, assuring Nigerians that governance would not stall. Cabinet ministers and aides are expected to manage domestic affairs in his absence.

Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, has sought to balance economic reforms, foreign partnerships, and domestic stability while steering Africa’s most populous nation through difficult times.
