NELFUND Urges Faster Verification to Prevent Student Loan Disbursement Delays

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has urged tertiary institutions to speed up verification and approval of student loan applications, warning that delays are causing setbacks for beneficiaries awaiting tuition and upkeep payments.

In a statement on Wednesday night, NELFUND said it had received numerous complaints from prospective loan recipients who fear their academic progress may be affected by the slow verification process.

“Verification of applications is a critical requirement in the loan process,” the Fund said. “By prioritising timely verification and approval of successfully submitted applications, beneficiaries would face no challenges in receiving institutional fees and upkeep allowances when due.”

In a related development, NELFUND announced the relocation of its headquarters to a permanent office in Abuja. From 5 September 2025, all correspondence, visits, and enquiries will be directed to House 12, Plot 103/104, Monrovia Street, Wuse 2, opposite Bon Hotel, Abuja.

“We wish to assure our stakeholders and the public that this relocation will not interrupt our services in any way,” said Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi. “NELFUND remains fully operational and committed to its mandate of providing affordable education loans and support to Nigerian students nationwide.”
