Sanwo-Olu Backs Nigeria’s $1 Trillion Economy Drive at GITEX Expo

LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged to position Lagos as a key driver of Nigeria’s goal to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Speaking at the opening of the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference 2025, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos was already at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation.

“Lagos is more than a city; it’s a movement. We are driving innovation to power Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy target,” the governor declared.

Highlighting Lagos’ achievements, he noted that 23 of Nigeria’s fastest-growing companies are based in the state, attributing success to supportive policies and a thriving startup culture.

The expo, organised with KAOUN International, NITDA and the Federal Ministry of Communications, drew global firms including IBM, Meta, AWS, and Cisco.

Minister of Communications Bosun Tijani also announced new government-backed funding for 75 digital research projects.

Sanwo-Olu urged innovators and investors to seize emerging opportunities in the digital economy, saying collaboration was key to scaling impact.
