SHIRORO, Nigeria – The North South Power Company Limited (NSPCL) has connected Eddah community in Niger State to the national electricity grid, ending more than 40 years of blackout.
The milestone was marked on Tuesday with the inauguration of a 300 KVA sub-station provided by the NSPCL Foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Executive Vice Chairman, NSPCL, Olubunmi Peters—represented by CSR consultant, Hassan Abdullahi—said the project would transform livelihoods. “Access to reliable energy is the key that unlocks poverty reduction and development,” he noted, citing UNDP research linking electricity access to growth.
NSPCL Foundation pledged further projects for Eddah, including a rice mill, school support, and water facilities. Chief Operating Officer Chioke Ugochukwu said the project restores dignity and security.
Community leaders hailed the electrification. Ward Head Alhaji Musa Mohammed said power would boost businesses, while District Head representative Garba Abara urged replication in neighbouring communities.
