NSIB Confirms 12 Injured in Abuja Train Derailment

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed that 12 passengers were injured after an Abuja-bound train derailed last Tuesday along the Kaduna corridor.

In a statement in Abuja, Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh, disclosed that 583 passengers were on board at the time of the incident.

Badeh said an Investigator-in-Charge had been appointed to lead the probe in collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and relevant stakeholders.

He added that evidence-protection measures had been taken, including securing the site and preserving CCTV footage.

“The bureau will release its final report within 30 days of the incident and share it with the NRC, regulatory authorities, and the general public,” Badeh said.

He further urged the Federal Government to address funding gaps to boost investigative capacity and enhance passenger safety.

Meanwhile, the NRC has suspended operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route pending the investigation outcome and has initiated refunds for all affected passengers.
