ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has recalled Embacef 125 Powder for Oral Suspension, citing poor quality.
The order, announced Wednesday in Alert No. 029/2025, followed a complaint that the antibiotic caked after reconstitution. NAFDAC confirmed the defect and ordered the recall of the affected and related batches.
Manufactured by Laborate Pharmaceutical India and registered in Nigeria by Embassy Pharmaceutical, the drug is used against bronchitis, gonorrhoea, Lyme disease, and UTIs.
NAFDAC warned substandard antibiotics pose risks including treatment failure, death, and resistance. Officials mobilised zonal directors to remove the drug and urged reports of any suspected counterfeit. The alert will also be shared with WHO’s global monitoring system.
