KANO, Nigeria – More than 6,000 residents across 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State have accessed free dental services under the state government’s 2025 Oral Health Outreach Campaign.
The week-long campaign, which began on August 16, concluded on Friday at Filin Mushe Primary Healthcare Centre in Gwale LGA, where residents received check-ups, extractions, oral hygiene kits, and health education.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, represented by Permanent Secretary Pharmacist Aminu Bashir, said the initiative underscores government’s commitment to preventive healthcare.
“Oral health is one of the most neglected aspects of public health. Untreated dental diseases can lead to severe complications. This is why the government continues to invest in interventions that protect citizens,” Bashir explained.
Beneficiaries hailed the programme as impactful. One participant, Malam Idris Garba Amin, thanked the government for making the service available, noting that many low-income households cannot afford dental care.
Officials stressed that the outreach aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of reducing disease burdens and expanding equitable access to healthcare. More free medical interventions, they said, will be rolled out in the coming months.
