EXCLUSIVE: Akwa Ibom Lawmakers Set to Defect to APC Friday

By John Nwokocha, Editor

It has emerged on Wednesday that all the members of Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Barring last minutes change of plans, our Reporter authoritatively learnt that all the state assembly legislators would dump the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the platform under which they were elected, at a public ceremony shortly, to join the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno who defected to the APC last Friday.

However, the 15 House of Assembly members have initially resisted the movement to the APC.

Eno was accused of forcing state, federal lawmakers, and council chairpersons to join the APC.

Confirming the lawmakers’ planned defection to the APC, the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Aniekan Umanah in an exclusive interview with our Reporter on Wednesday morning, he stated categorically, “all state lawmakers will defect to the APC on Friday”.

He added, “we will make this public soon before that Friday”.

Giving further clarification on the controversial resignation by some state commissioners, special aides and members of the state cabinet, Umanah responded, “only one commissioner resigned”.

We recall that the governor had last week warned all political appointees in the state to defect with him to the APC, or resign from their positions.
