A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced one Tobor Efeturi Godspower to eight years imprisonment for impersonating a foreign military officer and possession of fraudulent documents.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Godspower was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Commission on a two-count charge bordering on fraudulent impersonation and possession of fraudulent documents.
One of the charges read, “That you, Tobor Efeturi Godspower, on or about the 24th day of October, 2024 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, fraudulently impersonated one ‘Stephen Townsend’, purporting to be a military man stationed in Syria, with intent to gain advantage for yourself.”
Godspower pleaded guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, S.I. Suleiman, to present evidence including the defendant’s confessional statements, two mobile phones, a Toshiba laptop, a wristwatch, printed fraudulent documents, and $300 restitution made by the convict.
Justice Akintayo Aluko sentenced Godspower to four years imprisonment on each of the two counts, with an option of a N600,000 fine per count, and ordered that all items recovered be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
