Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has issued a fresh warning to farmers across the state against diverting government-subsidized agricultural inputs.
The warning came during the official launch of the 2025 Summer Rice Farming Program, held Saturday in Jura village, Auyo Local Government Area.
“Anyone found diverting these inputs will face severe punishment,” Governor Namadi said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting agricultural development and ensuring food security in the state.
The program is expected to benefit over 55,000 farmers. Namadi disclosed that the government had procured 360 tons of rice seeds and 70 rice harvesters to support the scheme. Additionally, around 300 motorcycles have been distributed to agricultural extension workers across the state’s 27 local government areas to enhance outreach and awareness.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Muttaka Namadi, described the launch as a major milestone, reaffirming the government’s consistent support to farmers through subsidized inputs aimed at boosting productivity and improving livelihoods.
Also speaking at the event, the Governor’s Technical Advisor on Agriculture, Dr. Saifullahi Umar, highlighted the importance of monitoring farmers to ensure effective utilization of the inputs.
“We will keep a close eye on the activities of our farmers to prevent diversion and ensure the success of the program,” Dr. Umar stated.
