Abuja Tanker Explosion: Police Confirm 6 Dead

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a fatal motor accident that occurred on Wednesday at around 6:58 PM near Nyanya Bridge.

A distress call received by the Karu Division reported that a Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement and traveling from AYA toward Nyanya Bridge, lost control and crashed into stationary vehicles caught in traffic.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on Thursday, the impact resulted in a devastating inferno that engulfed fourteen vehicles. Panic ensued as bystanders and motorists scrambled for safety while emergency responders worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and rescue those trapped.

“Six victims were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital, but sadly, they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their remains have been deposited at Karu General Hospital Morgue.”

Police operatives, in collaboration with the fire service, other security agencies, and courageous civilians, managed to extinguish the fire and restore normal traffic flow.

The FCT Police Command extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and assures the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident and prevent future occurrences.

Motorists are strongly urged to drive with caution, particularly in high-traffic areas, and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragedies.
