The National Examinations Council (NECO) has unveiled a state-of-the-art Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanner to improve the speed, accuracy, and security of its examination process.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Minna on Thursday, NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, said the significance of the Scantron Insight 1500c, describing it as a “game-changer in exam processing.”
“With this new addition, we will significantly enhance our data processing capabilities, ensuring faster and more accurate results processing for millions of candidates across the world,” Wushishi stated.
The N500 million scanner can process over 15,000 scripts per hour, making it one of the most advanced in the region. It simultaneously scans and scores exam sheets, reducing human error and processing delays.
NECO’s Director of ICT, Mr. Goddy Usioboh, hailed the acquisition as a “bold step towards world-class examination services,” reaffirming NECO’s commitment to credibility and technological advancement.
Training for NECO staff was conducted by Mr. Tom Harry, a technical expert from Scantron, USA. He praised the team’s “dedication and quick grasp of the machine’s operations.”
