9 Dead, 3 Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident

A ghastly accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Ayetoro area on Monday, resulting in the loss of nine lives and leaving three others severely injured.

According to the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Mrs. Florence Okpe, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a stationary truck. Okpe attributed the cause of the crash to speeding and fatigue, which led to loss of control, causing the driver to ram into the stationary truck.

The accident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., involved 13 people, comprising 10 men and three women. Unfortunately, six men and three women were recorded dead. The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

The FRSC spokesperson emphasized the importance of observing stipulated speed limits, lamenting the carelessness of some drivers who disregard speed limits and requirements.

Okpe urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such tragic accidents. She stated, “The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.”

The FRSC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety and reducing accidents on Nigerian roads.
