In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s public sector, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) have agreed to formalize their collaboration in the fight against corruption.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by FSI, Director of Public Enlightenment and Education and spokesperson for the Commission, Demola Bakare, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), underscored the significance of institutional collaboration in the fight against corruption.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by NSITF officials to the ICPC headquarters, he disclosed that both agencies are working towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their commitment to this cause.
“We need to strengthen the whistleblower mechanism in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and encourage the public to report issues confidentially,” Dr. Aliyu stated. He also stressed that sensitization and training for NSITF staff would play a key role in fostering ethical governance.
On his part, NSITF Managing Director, Mr. Faleye Oluwaseun, commended ICPC for its dedication to anti-corruption efforts, noting that policy advisory support, joint monitoring, and capacity building were critical areas for collaboration.
“NSITF is fully committed to accountability and good governance, and we are ready to sign the proposed MoU to formalize this partnership,” Oluwaseun affirmed.
Both agencies agreed that their cooperation would enhance public confidence in government institutions, with a focus on whistleblower protection and corruption prevention strategies.
The agreement, once formalized, is expected to boost oversight mechanisms in public financial management and improve adherence to ethical standards across government agencies.
