The Jigawa State Government has commended the Ganduje Foundation for conducting free eye surgeries for 1,000 patients, providing much-needed relief to visually impaired individuals across the state.
Governor Malam Umar Namadi made this known during the closing ceremony of the Eye Care Programme at Sambo Hospital, Dutse.
He praised the foundation for its humanitarian efforts, emphasizing that the free eye surgeries had restored vision and improved the quality of life for many residents.
“The government and people of Jigawa are truly grateful for this noble initiative, which has given hope to many who could not afford medical treatment,” Namadi said.
The Ganduje Foundation, founded by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who is also the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been offering free healthcare, education, and religious services for over 11 years.
Speaking at the event, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Kainuwa, highlighted the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services.
He disclosed that the administration had employed over 2,190 permanent and pensionable health workers, ensuring better service delivery across hospitals and health centers.
Dr. Kainuwa further revealed that the government had established kidney dialysis centers in Hadejia, Gumel, Kazaure, and Dutse, where patients receive free treatment.
Additionally, he noted that more than N7 billion had been invested in health equipment, facility construction, and renovation to enhance healthcare services.
The free eye surgeries, made possible by the Ganduje Foundation, have had a profound impact, particularly for elderly and underprivileged patients who had long struggled with vision problems.
The initiative not only alleviated suffering but also reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to humanitarian service and community well-being.
Governor Namadi called on other philanthropic organizations to emulate the Ganduje Foundation by supporting healthcare interventions that benefit the most vulnerable members of society.
