The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) condemned the allegations made by dismissed former JAMB staff member, Yisa Usman, labelling them as “baseless” and “malicious.”
In a joint statement signed by the branch chairman of NASU, Comrade Andrew Onakpa and that of ASCSN, Comrade Ebenezer Ayelabola made available to Africa Health Report, on Monday, the unions expressed strong disapproval of Usman’s attempts to tarnish the reputation of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
They stated that Usman’s claims of financial mismanagement were unfounded, urging him to provide evidence if he intended to continue his allegations. “We challenge him to explain how funds were processed before 2016 if not directly to personal accounts, including his own,” the statement reads.
Addressing Usman’s criticisms of JAMB’s welfare initiatives, including staff housing schemes, the unions clarified that government regulations permit such Programmes as grants and loans, not as state-maintained properties.
They also highlighted investigations by multiple government bodies, which cleared the Board of any wrongdoing.
The unions further stressed that Usman, who has been involved in ongoing legal disputes for defamation, was attempting to disrupt JAMB’s management following his dismissal by the Federal Ministry of Education. “Enough is enough,” the statement added, warning that the unions would take further action if necessary to protect the Board’s integrity.
