Nigeria Ranks 4th as Global Banana Production Reaches 135.5m Tons in 2022

Global banana production surged to an impressive 135.5 million tons in 2022, with Asia dominating the industry by contributing 51.7% of the total yield.

The latest data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAOSTAT), released on Thursday, underscores the region’s leadership in banana production.

India emerged as the world’s largest banana producer, followed by China, Indonesia, and Nigeria, which secured the fourth position, underscoring its growing influence in the global banana market.

The top 10 banana-producing countries in 2022 were:

  3. Indonesia
  4. Nigeria
  5. Brazil
  6. Ecuador
  7. Philippines
  8. Angola
  9. Guatemala
  10. Tanzania

The report highlights Asia’s prominent role in driving global production while emphasizing Nigeria’s rising contributions to the industry.
