The recent impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has ignited a firestorm of controversy, casting a shadow of doubt over his credentials and qualifications.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has said that it had no record of him as a registered lawyer in its registry.
The Supreme Court’s revelation in 2020 has thrown a wrench into his narrative, leaving his credentials in tatters, as is being used in the social media.
In a copy of the letter sighted by our correspondent, details shows that the letter was signed by Gertrude B. Karenton-Mordi, Esq., representing the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, and it was stated that Obasa’s name couldn’t be found on the extensive list of registered legal practitioners.
It read, “This is to inform you that we have checked our records and cannot find the name: MUDASHIRU AJAYI OBASA on the numerous rolls of legal practitioners kept in this honourable court.
“MUDASHIRU AJAYI OBASA is at liberty to come to the honourable court with his call to bar and qualifying certificates for enrolment. If he has done a change of name, he is expected to show proof of same.”
However, like a puzzle with missing pieces, Obasa’s educational background has been shrouded in mystery following the release by the apex court.
This bombshell discovery has raised more questions than answers, leaving many to wonder about the authenticity of his claims.
According to his profile on the Lagos State House of Assembly website, Obasa graduated from Lagos State University (LASU) and the Nigeria Law School.
With his impeachment on January 13, 2025, for gross misconduct, misappropriation of funds, and abuse of office, and the dust raised over his qualifications, the spotlight is now on Obasa to prove his credentials and restore public trust.
