The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have joined forces to combat drug trafficking through Nigeria’s waterways.
During a courtesy visit to NIMASA Towers in Lagos, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), highlighted the rising threat of illicit drug transportation via maritime routes. “The global maritime space is increasingly exploited for illegal drug trade. Collaboration is crucial to safeguard our waters,” he said.
Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of NIMASA, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment. “By working with NDLEA, particularly through initiatives like the Deep Blue Project, we can secure our maritime domain from criminal activities,” Mobereola stated.
The partnership will include integrating NDLEA personnel into maritime security operations and sensitizing NIMASA staff on drug abuse risks. Both agencies are optimistic about reducing drug trafficking and bolstering maritime safety.
