Lagos to Integrate Mini, Midi Buses into Bus Reform Initiative

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to incorporate mini and midi buses, commonly known as Korope and Danfo, operating along the Lekki-Ajah axis into its Bus Reform Initiative.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola.

Giwa revealed that the project is currently in the planning phase, with the documentation process for interested bus operators already underway. So far, 10 operators have submitted letters of intent, and six have been confirmed.

“Participating buses will undergo verification by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) and Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) to ensure roadworthiness before being branded in Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) colors and equipped with validators for the e-ticketing system.”

The initiative also aims to address challenges such as the extortion of transporters by hoodlums and to integrate union dues deductions into the e-ticketing system.

Giwa stated that the reform would be piloted for three months before full implementation, during which mini buses will be restricted from operating on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway and redeployed to serve inner routes and communities.
