A multiple accidents occurred on Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday, resulting in the death of one male and leaving three others seriously injured.

According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Tuesday, the accident happened while the agency was trying to recover a fallen 40-foot container.

“In an overnight operation… a multiple accident occurred along the same axis on Otedola Bridge,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

Investigations revealed that the incident occurred due to reckless driving, resulting in four articulated trucks laden with containers getting stuck together due to the force of impact.

“One adult male extricated from beneath the first accident truck lost his life in the incident,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

Three other adult males sustained various degrees of injuries, with two of them rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving on-the-spot medical attention.

Oke-Osanyintolu assured that necessary safety measures were activated and implemented to prevent further incidents at the scene.

“The rescued accident victims were administered immediate medical care and taken to the hospital,” he said.

The agency’s swift response helped mitigate the situation, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
