Senior police officers have raised alarms about persistent logistical challenges and inadequate manpower, highlighting how these issues are severely limiting the operational effectiveness of the police across Nigeria.
During an oral interview at the second Plenary Meeting of the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Tuesday, officers noted that these problems were hindering efficiency in various Departments, Zones, States, Areas, and Divisional Commands.
“The officers pleaded that such issues should be attended to in the overall interest of the functionality of the Nigeria Police Force,” a statement from the PSC spokesperson, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, said.
In addition to raising these concerns, the PSC also promoted 78 senior officers.
This included 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and 57 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) elevated to ACPs.
The promotions came just a day after the PSC approved the elevation of 11 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) and 16 Deputy Commissioners to substantive Commissioners.
One of the newly promoted officers, DCP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, had previously served as DCP of Admin and Finance in Jigawa State and held key roles in the Inspector-General of Police’s Monitoring Unit.
The 57 CSPs promoted to ACP include notable officers such as Ezeala Daniel Ezeala, Toyin Ahmed Sulyman, and Mohammed Sani Abubakar. The list also features officers like Alex Sani Gwazah, Matilda Ugowe, and Aboyemi Gbenga.
The plenary, which is being presided over by PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), is set to continue on December 18, 2024.
