Yuletide: FCT Police Bans Firecrackers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities by banning the use of firecrackers, also known as knockouts.

In a statement released on Saturday by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, Commissioner Olatunji Disu, emphasized the dangers associated with firecrackers.

He highlighted their potential to cause fire outbreaks, injuries, and unnecessary panic within communities.

“The use of firecrackers and fireworks leads to unnecessary panic and anxiety within the community. These items also pose fire hazards and other preventable risks,” CP Disu stated.

To enforce this ban, the Police have warned that anyone found selling or using firecrackers will face arrest and prosecution. The Command urged community leaders and residents to join efforts in sensitizing people about the dangers associated with such activities.

Citizens are encouraged to report violations of the directive or suspicious activities using the Police emergency numbers:

The FCT Police Command reassured residents of its resolve to ensure a peaceful festive season, urging everyone to celebrate responsibly.

“We are committed to maintaining law and order during this festive period and wish all residents a joyful Christmas and New Year,” CP Disu concluded.
