The Jigawa State Government has taken a significant step towards improving basic education in the state by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NewGlobe, a UK-based education solution provider.
The partnership, dubbed “Jigawa Unite,” aims to enhance literacy and numeracy skills among primary school pupils. This initiative is part of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda to revamp the state’s education sector.
Governor Namadi expressed concern over the state’s low literacy and numeracy rates, citing data that revealed a significant number of primary school children unable to read or write in either English or Hausa.
“We are committed to addressing this issue head-on,” he said. “Jigawa Unite is a crucial step in ensuring that our children receive the quality education they deserve.”
NewGlobe’s Chief Operating Officer, Jay Kimmelman, praised the Governor’s vision and commitment to education. “Together, we will transform education in Jigawa State and empower its future generation,” he said.
The partnership will involve implementing innovative teaching methodologies, providing teacher training, and utilizing technology to enhance the learning experience. The initial phase of the program will focus on 50% of the state’s basic schools, with plans to expand to all schools in the future.
By investing in education, the Jigawa State Government hopes to create a brighter future for its people and contribute to the overall development of the state.
