FG Partners Stakeholders to Tackle Post-Harvest Losses

The Federal Government has made a significant move to tackle post-harvest losses in Nigeria by forming a strategic alliance with the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF).

In a statement released to Africa Health Report (AHR) on Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance disclosed that Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, hosted a senior delegation from GENESIS Energy Group, USAID, and KPMG on Monday.

The meeting focused on plans to implement solar-powered cold storage units across the country.

The proposed cold storage facilities aim to tackle the considerable yearly losses of agricultural goods, improving supply chain management and food security.

In the meeting, Minister Edun highlighted the project’s importance to the government’s broader economic objectives.

President Tinubu’s administration prioritizes food security. The Minister stated that initiatives like these are crucial for reducing waste, creating jobs, and drawing in foreign investment.

The project aims to boost agricultural output and coincide with recent economic reforms, such as market-driven pricing for fuel and foreign exchange policies, which have contributed to economic stability and a better investment atmosphere.

Akinwole Omoboriowo, the CEO of GENESIS Energy, emphasized that the project could revolutionize Nigeria’s agricultural industry by implementing sustainable energy solutions and alleviating logistical difficulties.

Other stakeholders, such as Mohammed Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of NADF, and Dimeji Salaudeen from KPMG, reiterated their dedication to assisting the government’s initiative to reach its food security objectives.
