German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday, December 10, for a three-day official visit that will run until December 12, 2024.
The visit, announced by the German Embassy in a statement on Monday in Abuja, highlights the growing bilateral relations between the two nations.
During his stay, Steinmeier is set to meet with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission.
Discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation between Germany and Nigeria across various sectors, including politics, business, and culture.
In Abuja, Steinmeier will hold talks with key Nigerian officials, followed by a trip to Lagos, where he will engage with business leaders.
His itinerary includes visiting a start-up hub and meeting prominent cultural and civil society figures, such as renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
The visit will also offer Steinmeier a chance to explore the challenges and opportunities of urban development in Lagos, Africa’s largest city.
He will be accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking German business leaders, underscoring Germany’s increasing interest in investing in Nigeria’s tech, energy, and IT sectors.
“The rising interest of German businesses in Nigeria is a clear sign of growing opportunities for cooperation,” the German Embassy stated in its press release.
