At least one police officer was injured after a terrorist group attacked the Jakana Divisional Police Station in Borno State early Sunday morning, according to Nigerian police.
The assailants launched the attack at around 1:00 AM but were met with strong resistance from the police.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, stating that police operatives from the Borno State Command successfully repelled the attackers.
“The group of unknown armed individuals attacked the Jakana Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, at about 01:00 AM,” Adejobi said. “Fortunately, the group was met with strong resistance from gallant operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, who successfully repelled the attack and left many of the attackers with varying degrees of bullet wounds, while one police officer was injured and is currently responding to treatment.”
In a related operation, police in Sokoto, with support from other security agencies, raided several black spots and bandit camps on November 25. The operation led to the recovery of AK47 rifles and live ammunition.
In Delta State, police officers intercepted suspected kidnappers during a gun battle on November 28. After overpowering the suspects, police recovered several firearms and ammunition from their vehicle.
“A subsequent search of the suspected kidnappers’ operational vehicle led to the recovery of 3 AK-47 rifles, 2 pump action rifles, 1 AK-47 magazine, 8 rounds of AR live ammunition, and 21 rounds of live cartridges,” the statement noted.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the officers’ bravery. “I commend the gallant operatives for their steadfastness and commitment,” Egbetokun said, urging officers to continue their efforts in ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.
