The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC),Hashimu Argungu has emphasised the necessity for improved intelligence gathering within Nigeria’s security framework.
In a statement released by the PSC spokesperso, Ikechukwu Ani on Friday, Argungu highlighted the importance of respect for jurisdiction among various security agencies to enhance cooperation and reduce rivalry.
Argungu stated, “What the nation expects from them is intelligence sharing and cooperation,” warning that jurisdictional conflicts could lead to failures in intelligence operations.
The PSC Chairman stressed that security organisations must operate within their legal boundaries to prevent friction. “Every security organisation is established by law,” he noted, underscoring the critical role of intelligence in national development.
He made this assertion during a meeting with the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies, led by Barr. Mike Ejiofor.
Ejiofor, the Alumni Association President, echoed Argungu’s sentiments, asserting their commitment to fostering synergy among security agencies. “We aim to harness the training and experience of our members to support national security initiatives,” he said, announcing plans for their annual lecture in November.
Argungu also called for enhanced training quality within security institutions and urged alumni members to actively engage with agencies, providing constructive feedback. “Tell them what they are doing that is wrong,” he advised, aiming for a more collaborative approach to safeguarding Nigeria’s security landscape.
