Corp Members Struggle to Make Ends Meet in FCT, Abuja, Scores Lament

Umar Dalhat Muaz.

Corp Members serving at the FCT struggle to make ends meet, as prices of goods and services become very expensive and unaffordable to them.

This was contained in a report gathered from some of the corp members serving at the FCT on Tuesday, 8th October, 2024.

The corp members cried out over the high cost of transportation, causing them to spend about N2000 to N5000 from where they live to their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) on transportation, on a daily basis.

They also complained about lack of corpers lodge at most of their PPA as rent in private residences is too expensive for them to afford. Rent hits 5m in some areas around the FCT.

A serving corp member who prefers anonymity said, “There are corpers lodge but not the kind we think or picture. Abuja is the FCT of Nigeria and most people don’t actually come from here.

Corpers lodge are mostly projects done by indigenous peoples, thus leaving the onus of the creation of corpers lodge on religious bodies. They just rent an apartment and tag it corpers lodge which is not suppose to be so”

Despite these challenges, the said increase in the corp members monthly allowance announced by the Federal Government has yet to be implemented as the Corp Members still received the same 33,000 for September.
