The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has initiated urgent rescue operations in response to severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State. In a statement shared on Thursday via the agency’s official X handle, the FFS revealed that rapid response teams and specialized equipment have been deployed to rescue residents trapped in homes, vehicles, and other flood-affected areas.
The agency confirmed that several individuals, including children, the elderly, and those with special needs, have already been rescued from life-threatening situations. The Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Jaji O. Abdulganiyu, commended the efforts of the personnel involved, stating, “Our personnel have shown incredible courage and commitment in these challenging circumstances. We are doing everything within our power to save lives and ensure the safety of residents affected by this disaster in Maiduguri.”
The FFS is collaborating with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA), local government authorities, and humanitarian organizations to deliver emergency aid and assess damage. Joint operations are also underway to carry out additional rescue missions as necessary.
