The Federal Government has extended the public holiday for the Eid-El-Fitr celebration to Thursday, following the non-sighting of the crescent in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, announced the decision in a statement, saying, “The Federal Government has approved Thursday 11th April 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr.”
The decision to extend the holiday was made in light of the delayed Eid celebration, which will now take place on Wednesday.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, expressed congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation and reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive.
This extension of the public holiday is expected to provide more time for families and communities to come together and celebrate the Eid-El-Fitr festival. It also reflects the government’s recognition of the importance of this religious holiday to the Muslim community in Nigeria.
