The National Information Technology Development Agency, has issued a warning to Nigerians, urging them to be careful when scanning QR codes as scam activities have been on the rise.
The Agency, posted on its official X account on Sunday, raising concerns about the increasing use of QR codes for fraudulent activities such as phishing scams, payment fraud, data theft, and identity theft.
QR codes, known as machine-readable codes made up of black and white squares, are often used to store URLs or other information that can be accessed through smartphone cameras.
“The advisory is meant to remind users to stay cautious and take necessary steps before scanning QR codes in order to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of cyber scams.
