The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the murder of security operatives in Imo State on Tuesday by unknown gunmen.
Officers affected were from various agencies including police, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This is just as he offered his condolences to the families of the deceased with assurance that the perpetrators of the heinous act will be brought to book. He also pledged that the sacrifice made by their loved ones will not be in vain.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday, the IGP stated that the force ”will redouble its efforts to bring the culprits to book and guarantee the safety of our officers and the security of our communities, while earnestly imploring the public to remain calm and vigilant.”
He further urged the public to extend their cooperation to law enforcement agencies in the collective pursuit of peace and order in Imo State and other parts of the country.
The sad event took place on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Oriagu, Ehime Mbano Area of Imo State, when the officers responded to a distress call from the area, which later proved to be a fraudulent ploy intended to lure them into an ambush.
