The G20+, a group of professionals from Enugu State resident in the United Kingdom and Ireland, last weekend, brought succour to some young girls and women in the state with their medical outreach programme on cervical cancer screening and vaccination.
The programme, which witnessed the administration of vaccine doses on the beneficiaries, was organised at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT), Parklane, Enugu, in collaboration with the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
It was a form of support for the governorship campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the state, Mr. Peter Mbah.
The organisers brought together schoolchildren and a group of women they referred to as unique women. Daily Sun gathered that no fewer than 340 doses of HPV vaccines were donated to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (Parklane) for cervical cancer treatment.
Thrilled by the commendations that greeted the novel programme, the PDP governorship candidate received the diasporans at a courtesy call in Enugu on Tuesday, where he pledged that, if elected on March 11, his administration would collaborate with members of the group to deliver quality service in the areas of health, youth empowerment and information and communication technology (ICT).
On the delegation of the G20+ were its public relations officer, Chidere Attama, and patron, Chris Ozongwu, among others.
Speaking at the event, Mbah said that Enugu State under his leadership would experience unprecedented growth driven by disruptive innovation, technology and revolutionary ideas.
He also appreciated the group for donating the vaccines which are currently being administered to those who have been screened, especially young girls between the ages of 9-15 at Parklane.
Spokesperson of the G20+, Attama said that the group remains committed to funding charitable courses that will benefit the people of Enugu State, especially in the areas of ICT, healthcare, water and education.
On the vaccines, he said: “We want to ensure that women in Enugu State are screened and that is why we are providing it for free because many of them cannot afford the doses which cost 140 pounds each.”
He reiterated that the choice of Mba as governorship candidate was informed by the fact that his manifestoes vividly aliens with the group’s interest, adding that Mba remains the only one who will take the state to the next level of development.
“As a group, we have looked at other candidates and found that Mba’s interests stand out as they lie in youth development and creation of jobs, ICT and delivery of quality healthcare delivery to the people, “he said.
