One person was shot dead and two others wounded when suspected robbers opened fire on them, on Datano -Watereso road, in the Amansie South District of Ashanti, Monday evening.
The names of the victims, who were a motorcycle, were not immediately known, and some suspects took away their personal belongings.
Mr Kofi Mensah, Assembly Member for the Watereso electoral area, who confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times, said the deceased had been deposited at the Datano Hospital’s mortuary, and the two who suffered injuries were receiving treatment at the same hospital.
A source at the Datano police station has also confirmed the incident, and appealed to the public for information about the whereabouts of the deceased’s family.
Meanwhile, no relative of the deceased has been identified so far.
In another development, two bodies of two brothers have been retrieved after they were said to have drown in a mining pit at Watereso, near Datano in the Amansie South District while fishing in the pit on Monday.
Their names were given as “Yaw Owusu, 21, and his younger brother, only known as Beebe, 19.
Mr Mensah said “we were told that, the young one got trapped in the pit after he tried to fix a net they were using for fishing, so the elder brother went to his rescue, but the two unfortunately got drown in the pit”.
He said that inhabitants of the area retrieved the bodies which have been deposited at the Datano hospital’s mortuary.
