The National Centre for Disease Control  and Prevention (NCDC), has lamented the growing contamination of water in the country, leading to an increase in diarrheal diseases such as cholera.

The agency noted in a statement to mark World Toilet Day on Sunday, that poor sanitation contaminates drinking water, streams, rivers and food crops, thereby spreading diseases.

World Toilet Day is an official United Nations international observance day on 19 November to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.

NCDC implored the general public to build more toilets far from water sources, dispose sewage properly and stop open defecation.
