WAEC Launches Computer-Based Exams for Private Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the start of its Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CBWASSCE) for private candidates, commencing on October 25, 2024, and running until December 20, 2024.

In a statement released on Tuesday, WAEC indicated that the examination will be delivered in a hybrid format. “The examination will adopt the hybrid mode, which implies that the objective or multiple-choice questions would be rendered onscreen while candidates give their responses on the screen,” explained WAEC spokesperson Adesina Fadekemi.

“Essay and practical questions will also be displayed on-screen, but responses will be provided using the answer booklets.”

The registration period for candidates has been extended to October 29, 2024, allowing more participants to enrol.

Candidates will have the option to take the entire examination using traditional Paper and Pen methods if preferred.

WAEC has also introduced a “Walk-in Candidate” option for those who register 24 hours before their chosen paper, facilitating greater access for last-minute registrants. “The final timetable for the examination is available for download on the WAEC Nigeria website,” the statement added.
