The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into a viral audio-visual recording, which allegedly shows a senior Army officer and two other soldiers involved in an altercation with a man and a woman in Abuja.
The video, which has sparked widespread outrage on social media, depicts the soldiers reportedly engaged in a heated confrontation, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
In response to the disturbing footage, Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate inquiry to determine the facts surrounding the incident.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the investigation in a statement, stating that the Army remains dedicated to serving and protecting Nigerians in line with constitutional principles.
“We urge the public to be rest assured that due diligence will be applied to reach a logical conclusion on this matter,” Nwachukwu stated.
The incident has raised questions about the conduct of military personnel in civilian spaces, with the Army keen to address any potential misconduct.
