To mark the 2023 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, the UN is calling for investment in the female gender to prevent violence againat them.

It decried the rate of physical violence against women globally, estimated to be 736 million, adding on its website that almost one out of every three women are subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non sexual violence or both at least in their life.

The organisation further appealed to the world to end the soaring violence against women through robust responses including investment in prevention, better legislation and prosecution of perpetrators, more services for survivors and training for law enforcement officials.
